The dark underbelly of cupcakes

Of all the days to have a major flop, Sunday night was not the night for it to happen. You see today is a day that falls in the middle of three birthdays at work. And these aren’t any birthdays, these three people collectively put the ‘aholic in chocaholic.

We’re not talking “I enjoy chocolate chip cookies,” but “I eat chocolate chip cookies for breakfast before my chocolate cheese cake, chocolate french toast.”

I have this problem every time I make a cake that calls for both baking powder and baking soda. I think…I’m not going to over fill the tins this time and what happens. I over fill them. This sour cream chocolate recipe from Cupcakes by Elinor Kilvana made 18 cupcakes. I made 17 and plop; Big fat cupcake heads.

Hey, Send ‘em my way I’ll eat them! (It’s a dirty job but someone’s got to do it.) ;-)

the flops always come when there’s a deadline. When you’re truly inspired and everything comes out beautiful, everyone is dieting that week. the best part of failed cupcakes though, is that they still taste great and can be crumpled up into trifle. bring on the pudding and whipped cream! better luck on try two.

I’m SO glad to learn I’m not the only one with baking disasters. Thank you for sharing this. I was beginning to think that you were absolutely perfect in every way. (You’re SO put together!)

Though, I feel like all of my baking disasters end up tasting gross. I seem to only be able to make really, really dense baked goods. Any suggestions for a solution? I want light and airy without having to buy a box of cake.

Grrrrr….I can’t believe that you were here in DC and didn’t call the Cupcake Queen! What am I going to do with you? I could have taken you to a better cupcake scene then CakeLove!
